It’s getting close to kickoff time in the south, so it seems only proper and fitting that the top of the U.S. Amateur leaderboard had a definite SEC tilt Tuesday.

The low medalist after the two-day stroke play portion of the Amateur wins a small medal. It will be shared this year by a Bulldog — Georgia junior Lee McCoy — and a Razorback — Arkansas sophomore Taylor Moore.

Both finished 8 under after two rounds. And both seemed amped up to begin match play.

“I’ve played well the past year, the past two years — not that I’m due or anything, because this game doesn’t owe you anything,” said McCoy, a former SEC co-freshman of the year. “But it’s coming and I’m starting to play really well.”

“I couldn’t be any happier,” said McCoy, from Clarkesville, Ga.

“Well, I guess I could be. I’d like to be holding the trophy at the end of the week.”
