J Batt was named the 10th full-time athletic director at Georgia Tech last week and was introduced Monday.

We got a chance to ask him about that first name – or initial, as the case may be. It turns out it goes all the way back to elementary school.

Batt’s given name is Jason. He said he became Jay in elementary school – later shortened to J – when he was in a class with three Jasons.
