With a 45-22 win over No. 21-ranked North Carolina on Saturday night, Georgia Tech received a big boost in its quest for the ACC Coastal Division title. A big story of the game was the change at quarterback.

While Jordan Yates got the start, Jeff Sims came in and finished the game. Sims gave the Tar Heels’ defense problems as he scored three rushing touchdowns and threw for one.

Sims hit the century mark twice in the game, rushing for 128 yards on 10 carries and passing for 112 yards.

Having two talented quarterbacks with different roles on the team can be troubling and hard to manage. As for Yellow Jackets coach Geoff Collins, he said he’s proud of how his players have handled the situation and said it could be worst.

“Let’s be honest, a lot of times it can become toxic, (and) it never has,” Collins said.

“They’re awesome,” Collins said of Yates and Sims. “If you had a blueprint of how to handle a situation with a position where you go in and out and how to handle it, this is how you would write it.

“When two players at that position embody it and embrace it, you’ve got something special because then everybody else does,” Collins said.

Sims and Yates not only handle the situation well, they encourage each other to get better.

“They’ve done it the right way,” Collin said. “They dap each other up when they make big throws. They’re the ones that are celebrating with the other one first. That doesn’t happen, but it happens here.”
