Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude said Tuesday that he knows who will be the starting quarterback for the Yellow Jackets against No. 6 Clemson on Saturday, as do the quarterbacks and coach Geoff Collins.

“I’m not telling anybody else what we’re doing at ‘Q,’ ” Patenaude said.

Patenaude’s options are either Jeff Sims, who started all 10 of Tech’s games last season and the season opener against Northern Illinois, or Jordan Yates, who started against Kennesaw State on Saturday. Sims was knocked out of the Northern Illinois game after injuring his left arm or shoulder. Yates replaced him in that game and then had a superior performance against the Owls, completing 17 of 23 passes for 254 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Sims watched from the sideline with his left arm heavily wrapped, available to play only in an emergency.

“We’re very fortunate that we have two guys that can play, and for Jordan on Saturday, I thought he went out and handled himself really well,” Patenaude said.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
