Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims started and played in a full game for the first time this season. In the Yellow Jackets 52-21 loss to Pittsburgh, Sims finished the game passing 24-of-33 passing for 359 yards, and threw two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Sims two interceptions in the first half put the Yellow Jackets behind 14-0 in the first quarter. As a young quarterback, Sims showed resiliency to finish the game strong.

Yellow Jackets coach Geoff Collins stated that turnovers were the difference in the game but thought Sims responded in a positive way.

“I thought he responded the right way at a high level,” said Collins. “But the turnovers early hurt us.”

Sims two interceptions were the only turnovers by the Yellow Jackets in the game.

Sims first interception occurred on the Yellow Jackets own 43. Collins liked the play-call but gave credit to Pittsburgh for making the play.

“On the first pass of the game, it was the exact play we drawn up and the exact coverage we wanted,” Collins said. “It was wired for (receiver) Nate McCollum to score but it ended up being a pick. Credit to Pitt for making a good play.”

Through it all, Collins has faith in his young quarterback.

“The confidence and faith we had in Jeff stuck with him and he had a productive game.”

Sims finished the game with the most passing yards by a Yellow Jackets quarterback in 20 years. It was also the first 300-yard passing game by a quarterback since 2007.
