One of the few highlights from Georgia Tech's disappointing 5-6 season was an upset win over No. 17 Virginia Tech, which few people saw coming. On Friday, Sports Illustrated dubbed the Yellow Jackets 28-22 victory over the Hokies a game from 2017 the "still doesn't make sense."

The Yellow Jackets entered the game as underdogs and were coming off consecutive losses to Clemson and Virginia.

Quarterback TaQuon Marshall made the most of his only two completions in the game. The first one was a 60-yard touchdown to Brad Stewart. The second one was an 80-yard game-winning touchdown to Ricky Jeune with six and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter. Marshall’s latter scoring strike came two plays after he threw a pick-six to give the Hokies a 22-21 advantage.

Georgia Tech’s defense also played one of its finest games of 2017. The Yellow Jackets limited the then No. 1 offensive team in the Atlantic Coast Conference to 258 total yards. This performance came after the Yellow Jackets allowed nearly 400 yards in their previous two games.

The win moved the Yellow Jackets to 5-4, but after losing their last two games, the team failed to reach the postseason for the second time in three years.
