Georgia State will name Sharon Baldwin-Tener its new women’s basketball coach Friday, Georgia State confirmed Thursday. Baldwin-Tener has coached eight seasons at East Carolina, where she led the team to its first NCAA tournament berth since 1982, a 41-24 record over the past two seasons and a 126-115 record over eight seasons.

Baldwin-Tener played at Wills High School in Smyrna (since closed) and Georgia, where she was also an assistant before taking head coaching jobs at Life and Mercer. Baldwin-Tener gained a reputation as a strong recruiter at Georgia, helping land four eventual All-Americans for the Lady Bulldogs.

Baldwin-Tener replaces Lea Henry, who resigned from Georgia State in March after 16 seasons and a 245-222 record. The Panthers finished 15-15 this season, including a 6-12 record in the Colonial Athletic Association.
