- The top-ranked Aquinas Irish boys will step outside of Class A to take on one of the state's best programs, Laney from AA. The Wildcats, ranked No. 3, have advanced to the Final Four for four consecutive seasons and won it all in 2012. Aquinas is paced by senior guard Ahmed Hill, one of the top players in the state, who has averaged 30 points per game and committed to Marquette. And senior forward Tamyrick Fields has averaged an astounding double-double of 17 points and 18 rebounds per game.
- Basketball has been the domain of the girls at Holy Innocents', currently ranked No. 2 in Class A. But this year the boys are making just as much noise. Leading the way are seniors Darryl Stewart Jr., the team's leading scorer at 14 points per game, and 6-foot-6 forward Josh Ledbetter, who leads the Bears in rebounding at better than 10 per game.
