Former Georgia defensive back Deangelo Gibbs will redshirt this season at Tennessee, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Gibbs had sought an NCAA waiver that would allow him to play immediately.

"You don’t just transfer from one SEC school to the other (and expect to play immediately) without being a graduate transfer," Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt told the News Sentinel. "Deangelo knew that when he came here, and he came here because he believed in the coaching staff and for his future development in the game of football. He’s done a really nice job this offseason.”

Pruitt also said the redshirt year will give the coaching staff more time to determine if Gibbs should play in the defensive backfield or at receiver.

Gibbs was a top Bulldogs recruit after playing at Grayson High School. But he struggled to find playing time and transferred to Tennessee.

Meanwhile, Vols  defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon, a transfer from Michigan, is still waiting for a decision from the NCAA after he sought a transfer waiver.
