Veterans consulted about trip to London

Oct 23, 2014

Falcons coach Mike Smith, when putting together the plan for this season’s trip to play here, consulted with some of his players.

Veteran running back Steven Jackson played in London while with the St. Louis Rams in 2012. Also, defensive end Osi Umenyiora, a native of London, played here as a member of the New York Giants in 2007.

“We used Steven as a resource,” Smith said on Thursday. “Steven Jackson has played here and when we putting together our schedule and our plan, we asked how it had been done before and what his thoughts were on it.”

The introspective Jackson was helpful.

“He gave me a lot of insight on what the players are thinking and what they may be doing,” Smith said. “I think you’ve got to have a collaboration in anything that you do and you want your players to be involved in some of decisions especially when it’s a week long trip over here.”
