Former rap star Luther Campbell, who’s also known as Uncle Luke, was at Falcons’ practice to support running back Devonta Freeman, who’s out with a hamstring injury, on Sunday.

“This is like my little son here,” said Campbell, who was the front man for the 2 Live Crew. “He’s a good kid. Always been a good kid and hardworking young man.”

Campbell, who coached Freeman in his youth, offered him some advice about his injury.

“Stay focused,” Campbell said. “He already knows. He stays in that bible. He already knows that the man upstairs is looking out for him. Everything happens for a reason. He’ll be straight.”

Campbell, who was in town to speak about his new book at the National Book Club Conference in Buckhead, has had several first amendments battles over his career, with his cases going to the United States Supreme Court. He recently published a book titled: “The Book of Luke: My fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty City.”

“It’s deep,” Campbell said. “It’s about learning a lot about Southern Hip Hop. There are a lot of things that people don’t know about going to the Supreme Court. They don’t know lot of history on Miami and how deep it is. How that Miami was almost like Atlanta with almost 40 percent African-American.”
