The Falcons went through a 90-minute workout on the first day of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

Here are five things we learned:

1. Ifedi gets tryout. The Falcons gave defensive end Martin Ifedi a tryout after releasing defensive end Darius English, the former South Carolina and McEachern High product. English wanted to move on with his life. Ifedi had been with the Falcons for parts of the past two seasons.

2. McKinley to miss camp. Falcons first-round pick Takkarist McKinley can join the team when UCLA's semester ends on Thursday. Therefore, he'll miss the minicamp. Quinn said the first day could join the team would be Friday. Minicamp is over on Thursday.

3. Pass or fail. Quinn pulled the coaches off the field to see if the players could handle working on their own. They had mixed results.

4. Robinson excused. Offensive linemen Trevor Robinson has been excused from the offseason program to deal with distressed family issue. He'll return to the team for training camp.

5. Ryan's diet. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has eliminated sweets from his diet in order to decrease the inflammation in his body.
