Colin Kaepernick replaced Alex Smith as the starter after a Week 10 concussion sidelined the San Francisco quarterback. Kaepernick, a 2011 second-round draft pick out of Nevada, passed for 1,849 yards and rushed for 413 yards in seven regular season games. In Saturday's Divisional playoff game against Green Bay, he set an NFL record for a quarterback with 181 rushing yards.

San Francisco's leading rusher, Frank Gore, finished the season with 1,214 yards, the second-highest total of his eight-year career. Only 461 of those yards came in the final seven games after Colin Kaepernick took over as quarterback.

Three of San Francisco's four losses this season came on the road. In each of of those losses the 49ers scored 13 points or less.

Two of the 49ers' losses this season were inside a comfortable, 72-degree domed stadium - Minnesota and St. Louis.

This season San Francisco ranked second in opponent points per game (17.1) and third in opponent yards per game (294.4), marking the second year in which the 49ers ranked among the league’s top five teams in each category.

The 49ers' pass rush has led to 38 sacks in the regular season. San Francisco reached quarterback Aaron Rodgers on 11 of 43 pass attempts, completing just two of nine passes for 13 yards in their Divisional playoff matchup Saturday, according to ESPN stats.

The 49ers haven't won a road playoff game in 24 years. San Francisco has lost five straight road playoff games, including one at the Georgia Dome in 1999. The 49ers' last playoff road win was at Soldier Field in 1989 with some guy named Joe Montana piloting a 28-3 victory over Chicago. That remains the team's only NFC Championship win on the road.

San Francisco but has never reached the Super Bowl as the No. 2 seed.
