Chicago safety Ryan Mundy, who put a big hit on Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, was fined for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area on Wednesday.
It was not a helmet-to-helmet hit because Mundy led with his shoulder, but targeted the neck and head area.
“When we looked at the film, my head kind of jerked back,” White said on Wednesday. “His helmet kind of hit me right there in the ear hole. We knew he was going to get fined at point.”
Mundy wasn’t penalized for the play, which occurred early in the second quarter of the Bears’ 27-13 victory, because it was ruled on the field that Mundy led with his shoulder on the tackle.
The officials dropped the flag, but after a discussion picked it up because Mundy led with his shoulder.
