Previewing the Thursday nighter: Chiefs at Eagles

Andy Reid returns to his old stomping grounds.

Chiefs at Eagles

When: Thursday, 8:25 p.m. EDT

Story line: Andy Reid returns to Philly, where he racked up nine playoff trips, six division titles, five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl appearance in 14 mostly memorable years.

About the Chiefs: Alex Smith has been efficient as the new quarterback, and he'll be called on early and often here. The Eagles secondary is a mess, already torched for 748 yards in two games, and Philly doesn't get much pass rush, either. The KC defense, behind NT Dontari Poe's 3½ sacks, has allowed just 16 points.

About the Eagles: LeSean McCoy leads the NFL in rushing with 237 yards, and Mike Vick has taken to Chip Kelly's go-go offense. Vick has a 119.0 passer rating, he's piled up six touchdowns (four passing) and has zero interceptions. DeSean Jackson (16 catches, 297 yards) also is a new man under Kelly.

Prediction: Eagles 27-24. RB Jamaal Charles says the Chiefs want badly to win this one for Reid to show Eagles fans what they lost, but as long as Vick is healthy running this offense, the Iggles are one tough out.
