Corey Peters returned to the practice field Monday for the first time since the Falcons defensive tackle tore his Achilles tendon. Peters suffered the injury in Game 15 against the 49ers. He has been on the Physically Unable to Peform list since the start of training camp.

“Corey is way ahead of schedule in terms on his rehabilitation with his Achilles,” head coach Mike Smith said. “It’s going to be fun to watch him get indoctrinated into what we are doing this season.

“We are going to take it slow. The next question will be whether we will have him ready for the next game. That is going to be something that is determined in how he handles the next couple of weeks.”

Peters had a career-high five sacks before he was injured. He will now have to work his way into a new-look defensive line that features tackle Paul Soliai and end Tyson Jackson. The Falcons also drafted Ra’Shede Hageman in the second round this year.

Wide receiver Drew Davis and safety Zeke Motta are the only other Falcons currently on the PUP list.
