Falcons punter Matt Bosher begins his rookie season after being selected in the sixth round (No. 192) out of Miami this season. Bosher takes over for Michael Koenen, who left via free agency. Here’s a brief Q&A involving Bosher and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Chris Vivlamore:

Q: What’s the difference between punting in college and the NFL?

A: Just the speed of the game. It’s faster in this league. It’s still the same principle — get the ball off, get good hang time and get it where it needs to be. There is less room for error.

Q: How did you get your start as a kicker?

A: Freshman year in high school, they needed a kicker. I played soccer for a long time, so I tried out and made the team as a kicker and punter. I went from playing different positions my freshman year to just specializing in kicking and punting. I did all three in high school and college. I came here and got a job, and I just have to keep fighting to keep it.

Q: Do you get more satisfaction out of kicking a field goal or pinning an opponent deep with a punt?

A: It’s two totally different aspects of the game. Pinning an opponent deep, though, is a great feeling because you know you are helping out the whole team. You are really giving the defense a good head start.
