Matchup: Falcons' run offense vs. Packers' run defense

About the Falcons' run offense: The Falcons, relying on their power running game, averaged 118.2 yards per game during the regular season, which ranked 12th in the NFL. Running back Michael Turner had a strong season, rushing for 1,371 yards and 12 touchdowns. He did have two fumbles inside the opponent's 20-yard line in the each of the past two games. Turner is backed  by Jason Snelling, who also is a receiving threat. Fullback Ovie Mughelli is one of the best lead blockers in the league. Turner rushed for 110 yards on 23 carries and scored a touchdown in the regular-season game against Green Bay.

About the Packers' run defense: The Packers give up 114.9 yards rushing per game, which ranks 18th in the league. They have a stout front seven and can super-size their front with left end Ryan Pickett (340 pounds), nose tackle B.J. Raji (337) and right end Howard Green (365). Right end Cullen Jenkins played against Philadelphia after missing four games with a calf injury. He played 31 snaps against the Eagles and was a bit rusty. At linebacker, Clay Matthews and Eric Walden play outside, while A.J. Hawk and Desmond Bishop are the inside linebackers. The Falcons enjoyed some success powering the ball at Hawk, with right guard Harvey Dahl leading the way, in the regular season.

Analysis by ESPN's Tom Jackson: "They have one of the best running games in the National Football League. Michael Turner and this offensive line, you'll see them line up in I-formation. They'll line up in double tight ends and pound you 30, 35, 40 times a game and eventually. ... this is old-style football. ... they will wear you down. Eventually the run game will get more effective as the game goes on." (more...)
