Jones: Falcons searching for offensive identity

April 19, 2016

FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, who had a record-breaking season in 2015, is looking for the offense to make major strides in 2016.

While the offense leaned heavily on Jones, he felt they didn’t have a true identity.

“We just have to be more consistent,” Jones said. “We were just so up and down last year. We really couldn’t find an identity for ourselves.”

Jones caught 136 passes for 1,871 yards, but just eight touchdowns.

The Falcons were seventh in the league in total yards, sixth in passing yards, 19th in rushing yards, but were in the lower half of the league in redzone efficiency (17th) and scoring (21st). Essentially, the moved the ball, but didn’t score points as turnovers and penalties tended to stall drives.

Jones believes they can iron out the kinks in there second season working under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

“Just with this offseason, we have time,” Jones said. “It was Kyle’s first season (with the Falcons), last year. All of us as well, our first time in that scheme. We just have to find an identity and it should be better.”
