Hester gives his toe a test run

Sept 11, 2015

Falcons wide receiver Devin Hester tested out his injured toe by running on the sidelines during the open portion of practice on Friday.

“We’ll see where Devin is at today with regard to his availability,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “We’ll work some with him, then we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Before his run, Hester, the team’s Pro Bowl kickoff and punt returner, said that taking off and cutting were problematic.

“I wanted to give it a shot and see what it’s looking like,” Hester said.

He’s never had to miss a season opener and he plans to play against the Eagles on Monday.

“That’s my goal,” Hester said.

If Hester is not able to play, the Falcons will pick between wide receiver Nick Williams, Eric Weems and Justin Hardy.

“We’ve got a number of guys that I think are capable of getting the job done for us,” special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong said. “We’ll make that decision as we get closer.”
