In an interview with Jarrett Bell of USA Today, Herschel Walker, the standard by which all Georgia running backs are judged, provided entertainment as well as his view of today's NFL — a place he still believes he could fit in at the age of 52.
Some of the highlights of the interview:
- Donald Trump and NFL? Walker likes the idea of the real estate mogul buying a stake in the Buffalo Bills, now up for sale after the death of longtime owner Ralph Wilson. Walker, of course, played for Trump when the tycoon owned the USFL's New Jersey Generals. "He would be a great owner, and a credible owner," Walker said. "He may rub some people the wrong way, but you can't argue with his success as a businessman. You want an owner with some flair. He knows how to promote."
- A "senior" running back in the NFL? "I can play in the NFL today," Walker said. "I couldn't take every snap. But running backs nowadays don't play every down. Now they send in the choir section. Physically, I can still do it."
- Why he really did the interview: He is busy with several Dallas-based business ventures. Next week, he says, will announce an e-Commerce venture involving his company, 34 Solutions, and Cinsay.
The SEC Network recently used a clip of a 2012 documentary of Herschel Walker (video above) "running over people" to promote its August debut.
