Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon welcomed a new addition to his family. He became a father over the team’s break before training camp.

“The best thing I did was welcome my newborn son,” Weatherspoon said. “He is my first son and he came June 25. That was pretty awesome.”

Weatherspoon said he spent time in Atlanta and Arizona training for the coming season. When he wasn’t working, he helping around the house on daddy duty.

“I wouldn’t say quite all the way as I get a little leeway when it is time to do some work,” he said. “I have to tip my hat off my fiancé for that. But I have definitely been on daddy duty when I am there by myself.”

Training camp won’t stop him from performing his duties. He already has arranged a little help and has set his son up with some pretty cool Falcons gear.

“We got a great babysitter and everything will go smooth during camp,” Weatherspoon said. “He is definitely squared away and we got the little man right.”

Weatherspoon is in his second stint with the Falcons after he was selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Missouri. He spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played in 14 games and had 11 tackles.

This season, he returns to the Falcons to compete for one of the team’s open linebacker positions. In his seven-year career, he has 301 tackles and eight sacks in 61 career games.
