The Falcons’ meeting with sack specialist Dwight Freeney went well, but the team elected not to sign him immediately.

The Falcons may re-visit the situation later in the offseason.

The Falcons need to improve their pass rush, and Freeney, who’s 36, wants to continue playing. He has 119.5 sacks in a career that likely will end with his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Falcons have 88 players on their roster, two under the 90-player offseason limit. They probably would not need to rush to sign a veteran such as Freeney, who could just skip the offseason and be ready for training camp.

Freeney, who also visited the Cincinnati Bengals, helped the Cardinals reach the NFC Championship game last season. He broke into the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts after he was selected 11th overall out of Syracuse in the 2002 draft.

He played 11 seasons for the Colts and helped them reached two Super Bowls. He played two seasons for the San Diego Chargers, before playing for the Cardinals in 2015.
