Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Mike Smith will not be roaming the sidelines on Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

Smith, the Falcons former head coach, will call the game from the press box.

“I love being in the press box,” Smith told the Tampa media during his weekly press conference on Thursday. “That’s where I’ve spent most of my time as a coach. As a head coach, I had to stand on the sideline, but the majority of my time has been up in the press box.”

Smith likes the vantage point from up high over the field.

“You see so much more when you have that view,” said Smith, the winningest coach in Falcons’ history. “You don’t necessarily get the emotion of the game, but you do get the feel of how people are trying to attack you and how you can attack them.”

Smith noted that the Falcons have turned over most of the roster since he was fired after the 2014 season.

“I could be a disadvantage because you know too much,” Smith said.
