Dick and Joan Flutie, father and mother to former Boston College football standouts Doug and Darren Flutie, both died on Wednesday.
Both had heart attacks within hours of each other.
The news of the Fluties' deaths was confirmed by a source Wednesday afternoon. Flutie confirmed the sad news and shared a personal statement on his Facebook page.

Doug Flutie, who won the Heisman Trophy as Boston College's quarterback in 1984, and also played in the NFL, is scheduled to broadcast BC's game against Notre Dame Saturday night at Fenway Park. He serves as an analyst for NBC Sports, which broadcasts Notre Dame football.
