Falcons defensive end Allen Bailey is set to play some big defensive end In the team’s run defense.

Think of him as a replacement and potentially an upgrade over Brooks Reed, who was released after the season.

"I'm mean big end," said Bailey, who signed Tuesday with the Falcons. "Scheme-wise, I understand a lot of the scheme."

Bailey said he’s getting a lot of help with the terminology from the other defensive linemen.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn sent text messages to Bailey over the offseason.

“It was encouraging that they thought highly of me,” Bailey said. “When we did get the thing done, it was very exciting.”

Former Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton also was added to the staff over the offseason.

“He kind of gave me some insight into the environment,” Bailey said. “How much different it was, how much fun it was and how we could proceed with the defense here.”

Bailey, 30, played at Miami and McIntosh County Academy. As a high school senior, he was a member of the AJC’s Super 11 in 2006.

He was drafted in the third round (86th overall) of the 2011 draft.

Bailey has spent his entire career with the Chiefs. He’s played in 102 NFL games and has made 61 starts.
