He lost his balance on the 40-foot wave and fell 20 feet into the surf.

"When this wave came toward me, I was totally committed. It looked like a sea monster rising out of the ocean when it came my way. But I was going no matter what," he told Surfer Magazine. "So I flipped around and started paddling to get into it.

Dosland said wind blew water in his face and limited his sight, "So I was pretty much just going off of feeling for that brief second before you drop in. Then, I was able to open up both my eyes, and I realized what was about to happen."

Dosland's surfboard was completely destroyed, but he was not injured. He only had a stiff neck.

He returned to Jaws the next day with a borrowed board. He got no major waves, but he didn't have any dangerous falls either.
