Scott Donnelly resigned as Atlanta United 2’s manager Thursday to pursue another opportunity in soccer.

Playing in a baseball stadium in Lawrenceville and with a roster of ever-changing personnel, Donnelly, 39, led the team to a 7-17-10 team record in its inaugural season.

He was challenged with coaching the team in the playing style of Atlanta United, so that the players on Atlanta United 2 would be ready to step in should they needed by the senior team. The few players that were used by both teams, Miles Robinson, Andrew Carleton and George Bello, did play well.

Atlanta United 2’s season will begin March 9 against Hartford. Its home this season will be Kennesaw State’s Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Atlanta United 2 doesn’t start training until early February. Rob Valentino was Donnelly’s assistant and remains employed by Atlanta United.
