Darius Walker's next act

Former Buford star pursues NFL dreams

Former Buford High and Notre Dame football standout Darius Walker is determined to have a successful NFL career. He currently plays for the Houston Texans.

Often while at Buford High, Walker played like a man among boys.

Playing for Buford, Walker had good reason to be all smiles. In one Class AA semifinal game, he rushed for over 200 yards.

During his senior season at Buford High, Walker took time away from the gridiron to participate in school musical productions. He stated aspirations for a stage career some time in his future.

Walker had the gleaming Class AA state championship trophy at his side while announcing that he would attend Notre Dame.

To be as supportive as possible, Walker's parents LaVerne and Jimmy Walker bought a home near the Notre Dame Stadium and moved to South Bend, Ind.

Fans of the Fighting Irish came to appreciate the power Walker flourished coming out of the backfield.

At Notre Dame, Walker showed flashes of deceptive speed.

Walker had a happy homecoming of sorts in '06 when he scored a touchdown to help visiting Notre Dame defeat Georgia Tech.

At Notre Dame, Walker was among the most popular student-athletes.

Walker leaves several USC defenders in his wake while gaining yardage for Notre Dame in 2006.

Walker's parents gleefully back their son's decision to leave Notre Dame after a successful junior season and enter the NFL draft.

The ever-outgoing Walker keeps spirits high among his Texans teammates.

Walker is tripped up during a rushing attempt against the Denver Broncos. The Houston Texans won the game, 31-13.
