After four seasons with the Atlanta Braves, the team has released second baseman Dan Uggla after a disappointing drop in production.

The Atlanta Braves acquired second baseman Dan Uggla prior to the 2011 season in a trade with the Miami Marlins. They quickly signed him to a five-year, $62-million deal.

In his first season after being acquired from the Marlins in exchange for Omar Infante and Mike Dunn, Uggla tallied 36 homers in 2011.

While in Atlanta, Uggla became the only second baseman in baseball history to hit at least 30 home runs in three or more consecutive seasons.

In his first season with Atlanta, Dan Uggla led major league second basemen with 15 errors.

Dan Uggla had 535 strikeouts in 1,701 at-bats for the Braves.

Last season, Uggla's batting average dipped to .179 with 55 RBIs in 136 games. Those were career lows, as was his 60 runs. He was left off of the 2013 playoff roster.

Uggla was batting just .162/.241/.231 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 130 at-bats in 2014, and had started just twice since May 23.

Despite his outright release, the Braves will still owe Uggla the remainder of his $13-million salary for this season and another $13 million for the 2015 season.
