Between transfers and disciplinary dismissals, Georgia’s defensive depth chart was ravaged by attrition during the offseason. But from a competitive standpoint, coordinator Jeremy Pruitt doesn’t see it as an issue as far as he’s concerned.
“To me it’s not losses,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got the guys we’ve got and that’s what we’re going to go with.”
Josh Harvey-Clemons and Tray Matthews, multi-game starters at safety last season, were both dismissed for disciplinary reasons and have transferred to Louisville and Auburn, respectively. Shaq Wiggins, an eight-game starter at boundary corner, followed former coordinator Todd Grantham to Louisville because of philosophical differences with Pruitt. Last week, sophomore defensive tackle Jon Taylor was dismissed after his arrest for domestic assault and outside linebacker Davin Bellamy is facing suspension after a DUI arrest this past weekend.
“I never really had them anyhow,” Pruitt said. “We’re just going to coach the ones we’ve got. I’d like to focus on the players that are at Georgia, not the ones that aren’t here.”
