Jacky Dorsey had some legendary games when he was playing for Georgia in the mid-1970s. So it’s fitting that 40 years later, he was officially recognized as an “SEC legend” here in Nashville.

Dorsey is the Bulldogs’ representative among this year’s 14 legends — one for each of the league’s teams — at the SEC Tournament.

Dorsey was one of the SEC’s most exciting players during an abbreviated UGA career. Playing for the Bulldogs for just two seasons, he averaged 25.8 points as a freshman and 21.8 points as a sophomore to earn first-team all-conference honors both seasons.

Had Dorsey stayed around for another season or two, he most certainly be would be listed among the SEC’s all-time. As it is, he turned pro after his sophomore season and played five NBA seasons after being selected by the New Orleans Jazz in the 1976 draft.

Today Dorsey lives in Houston, Texas, and is a union representative for the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Other legends recognized this week are: former Alabama coach C.M. Newton, Arkansas’s Darrell Walker, Auburn’s Chris Porter, Florida’s Eddie Shannon, Kentucky’s Bob Burrow, LSU’s Ronald Dupree, B.L. “Country” Graham of Ole Miss, Mississippi State’s Doug Hutton, Missouri’s Dick Chievous, South Carolina’s Jack Thompson, Tennessee’s Johnny Darden, Texas A&M’s Sonny Parker and Vanderbilt’s Bruce Elder.
