Uga VI funeral

University of Georga mascot Uga VI was interred Monday at Sanford Stadium in Athens

Uga VI's jersey and collar rest on top of his crate. The body of the dog, whose registered name was Uga V's Whatchagot Loran, was interred Monday in the granite and marble mausoleum where Uga's five predecessors are buried inside Stanford Stadium. Uga VI died Friday.

Uga VI arrived in Athens by plane from Savannah and was escorted across Sanford Stadium field by Charles Seiler (left), son of UGA VI owner Sonny Seiler, and head Georgia groundskeeper Waldo Terrell.

Spectators line bridge overlooking Sanford Stadium to catch glimpse of ceremony, which was closed to the public and restricted to members of the UGA athletics board, athletics department employees and friends of the Seiler family.

Dignitaries included UGA president Michael Adams, who made opening remarks.

Dan Magill, former Georgia Sports Information Director and head tennis coach, pays his respects to Uga VI. Magill, UGA historian, first designated the Seiler's dog as the new mascot

Flowers line the memorial site for Uga VI and the former Georgia mascots.

A bouquet of flowers from the Arkansas Razorback mascot, Tusk, featured a condolence card, which reads "Condolences on the passing of a legend, you were the one that set the standards for all Mascot programs everywhere. You may be replaced but you will never be forgotten."

Following the service, owner Sonny Seiler approaches Uga VI's crate. He said after the ceremony: "He was the biggest by far. ... And he had a great big heart, which finally played out."
