UGA 2010 Football Schedule Breakdown

An early look at the 2010 UGA football schedule.

Sept. 4 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette in Athens: This will be a far-friendlier opener for Georgia than last year's trip to Oklahoma State. The Ragin' Cajuns were 6-6 in 2009, including losses to LSU and Washington by a combined 86-3. Georgia will pay Louisiana-Lafayette $875,000 for making the trip to Athens.

Sept. 11 at South Carolina: This should be the first test for Georgia's new quarterback and new defense. The Gamecocks return nine starters on offense, including quarterback Stephen Garcia.

Sept. 18 vs. Arkansas: The Hogs finished 8-5 last season and are led by 6-foot-7 QB Ryan Mallett.

Sept. 25 at Mississippi State: Dan Mullen will be in his second season as the Mississippi State coach. The Bulldogs were 5-7 in 2009 but finished with a win over rival Mississippi

Oct. 2 at Colorado: Georgia fans are looking forward to the Dogs' first trip to Boulder. The Buffaloes were 3-9 last season. One of the victories was 35-34 at home over Texas A&M, which Georgia routed in the Independence Bowl.

Oct. 9 vs. Tennessee in Athens: This game became the most compelling on Georgia's 2010 schedule when Derek Dooley was hired as Tennessee's coach. The very idea seems almost surreal: Vince Dooley's son coaching against the Dogs between the hedges.

Oct. 16 vs. Vanderbilt in Athens: The Commodores were 2-10 this past season and have lost to Georgia 14 times in the past 15 years.

Oct. 23 at Kentucky: Georgia surely won't play as badly against the Wildcats as it did this past season, when four second-half turnovers gave away the game and probably a trip to the Outback Bowl. The Cats have a new head coach, with Joker Phillips succeeding the retired Rich Brooks.

Oct. 30 vs. Florida in Jacksonville: The Georgia-Florida series moves into the post-Tebow era, but will anything really change? The Gators have won 17 of the past 20 vs. the Dogs.

Nov. 6 vs. Idaho State in Athens: This will be a welcomed respite on Georgia's late-season schedule. Idaho State, a Division I-AA team, was 1-10 this past season and lost to Arizona State and Oklahoma by a combined 114-3.

Nov. 13 at Auburn: The Dogs will be trying for their fifth consecutive victory against Auburn. That would make for Georgia's longest winning streak vs. the Tigers since the 1940s.

Nov. 27 vs. Georgia Tech in Athens: Georgia will be going for its ninth win in 10 years against the Jackets, who won on their last trip to Sanford Stadium in 2008 and took home pieces of the hedges as souvenirs.
