Georgia Tech A-back Tony Zenon received unqualified praise from coach Paul Johnson for his work thus far in the preseason.

“Tony’s had a really good camp,” Johnson said. “I think that he’s got the offense down and now he can use his quickness and speed. He’s playing fast.”

Zenon retained his starting position, according to the depth chart released by the school Monday. Thus far, he has been effective in all three elements of the position – running the ball, catching it and blocking. The senior, one of the smallest but quickest members of the team, agreed with Johnson’s assessment that familiarity with the offense has helped him play better. Through three seasons, he has largely played a reserve role, unable to jump into the rotation.

“I would say, playing A-back, mentally you’ve got to be sharp because every play you’ve got to know who to block and you have to know your assignment every play,” he said.
