Alabama coach Nick Saban says defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson is out for the season with a knee injury.

Saban says the redshirt freshman had "very successful" surgery on Friday but will need four or five months of rehabilitation.

He says Tomlinson "was doing a fantastic job for us." Tomlinson was injured in last Wednesday's practice during an open date.

He was listed as a backup to defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan, along with freshman Jonathan Allen. He had four tackles in the Tide's opener against Virginia Tech.
