Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury has been getting his indoctrination this week to his new side job – member of the College Football Playoff committee.
As part of the committee, Stansbury will help select the four teams for the College Football Playoff semifinals. It’s a three-year term that begins this season. Since Monday, Stansbury has been at the CFP’s summer meeting, held in Key Biscayne, Fla., to meet the staff and other committee members and learn the details of the position.
Membership on the committee will require him to travel to the Dallas area on a weekly basis for ranking meetings that start in late October, concluding with the much-anticipated setting of the CFP semifinals in early December. The committee probably is the most observed of all decision-making entities in college athletics and possibly in all of American sports.
“I’m really excited about kind of getting into it,” Stansbury told the AJC on Monday. “So I’m sure I’m going to find a lot more out over the next couple of days.”
Stansbury was named to the position in January to be the ACC’s representative, replacing Clemson AD Dan Radakovich.
