OXFORD, Miss. – Georgia Tech is in the loser’s bracket after an 8-0 loss to Washington at its NCAA regional Saturday afternoon at Mississippi’s Swayze Field.

Against Washington standout Tyler Davis, the No. 3 seed Yellow Jackets managed just four hits and advanced just one runner past second base. Davis, who threw a complete game with eight strikeouts and no walks, came into the game with a 10-2 record with a 1.75 ERA.

No. 2 seed Washington got all the scoring it needed in the first, taking a 1-0 lead with a hit batsman, sacrifice bunt, stolen base and single. The Huskies tacked on four more, in the fourth, all scored with two out, to put the game away. Starter Josh Heddinger, who struggled with his command, took the loss for the Jackets.

Second-seeded Washington advances to a winner’s bracket game against Saturday night’s Ole Miss-Jacksonville State winner Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern time. The No. 3 seed Jackets were shut out in an NCAA tournament game for the first time since 2008, a span of 24 games. Tech, which had stormed to its ninth ACC title a week ago, will play an elimination game against the loser at noon.

In order to win a regional for the first time since 2006, when the Jackets reached the College World Series, Tech (36-26) will have to win four consecutive games. Washington (40-15) is in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2004.
