Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas was held out of practice for the second consecutive day Tuesday after twisting his ankle in Saturday’s game against Duke. Coach Paul Johnson has said that he expects Thomas to play. Wide receiver DeAndre Smelter also did not practice with an unspecified injury.

Johnson said on his radio show Monday night that Smelter, who suffered an injury running into a stadium tunnel in the Duke game, should play Saturday, but is “just pretty beat up.”

At the Tuesday news conference, Johnson said that defensive end Kyle Travis and offensive tackle Bryan Chamberlain, who both missed practice Monday, would practice Tuesday. Running back Synjyn Days, held out of Monday’s practice, returned. Safety Isaiah Johnson, who also did not practice Monday, is “fine,” Paul Johnson said. An official injury report will be issued Thursday.

Johnson was supportive of Thomas after he threw two costly interceptions against the Blue Devils.

“He knows he didn’t play well, but he’s fine,” Johnson said. “He’ll bounce back. It’s like I told him (Monday), I’ve got all the confidence in the world (in him).”
