Georgia Tech nose tackle Shawn Green is expected to be able to play in the Yellow Jackets’ final game of the regular season against Georgia Nov. 29, according to coach Paul Johnson. Green suffered a knee injury against N.C. State Nov. 8 and missed last Saturday’s win over Clemson.
“He should be good to go,” Johnson said.
Green, who did not practice Wednesday, has been an integral member of the defense this season, starting the first 10 games and collecting 18 tackles. Green’s role has often been to take on double teams, allowing teammates to be single blocked.
“It’ll mean a lot” for Green to return, defensive coordinator Ted Roof said. “You’re talking about a guy that’s played a lot of football at a position we’re ultra-thin at already.”
Roof said that defensive lineman Patrick Gamble, who was moved out from backup tackle to starting defensive end for the Virginia game and then started at nose tackle in Green’s place against Clemson, will probably be used at both end and tackle against Georgia.
