Fans attending Saturday’s Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech game will be able to upgrade their seat locations once inside McCamish Pavilion.

Fans can download an application to their smartphones that will enable them to search for availability in three areas of McCamish’s lower bowl  -- the corner, courtside and the Callaway Club. The app is available at gatech.findexp.com.

“We’re trying to further enhance technology and improve game-day experience for our fans,” associate athletic director Rick Thorpe said.

Tech had a soft launch for the service, produced by Atlanta-based Experience, last Saturday for the Miami game. The company has almost 20 clients, both professional and college teams, including the Braves. Initially, the cost to upgrade is between $5 and $30. As the season goes on, the pricing may adjust with demand and availability of seating.

Thorpe said the athletic department is looking to expand the service to football games at Bobby Dodd Stadium. In addition to providing another revenue stream for the athletic department, the ticket office hopes to use the information provided by users as it seeks to expand its customer base.

At the Miami game, about 20 groups made purchases, one 12 minutes after the game had started.

“We try to make it extraordinarily simple for the fans,” said Experience president Ben Ackerman, a graduate of the Marist School. “We try to make it extraordinarily simple for the team.”
