Georgia Tech first-year freshman B-back C.J. Leggett has put himself in position to remove his redshirt in the eighth game of the season.
Coach Paul Johnson said Wednesday following practice that Leggett will make the travel squad for the Yellow Jackets’ game at Pittsburgh Saturday.
Johnson said at first that Leggett was “probably going to play” before hedging a little more in the interview.
“I don’t know that he’ll play, but we’re taking him,” Johnson said.
Whether or not Leggett will play this season has been an ongoing question for coaches this season. Leggett impressed in camp before injuries set back his development. Johnson has said he doesn’t want to burn Leggett’s redshirt just to play seven or eight snaps a game, particularly at this juncture of the season. But, with B-back Zach Laskey out with a shoulder injury, Leggett may have more opportunities to contribute. Johnson has said Leggett brings big-play potential to the position, which has had steady production with Laskey and Days but no rush longer than 26 yards.
“I think he’s got a decent understanding of where to go,” Johnson said. “He’s a talented guy.”
Johnson also said that right tackle Chris Griffin did not practice Wednesday for the third day in a row, making him an uncertainty to play Saturday. Johnson said that Eason Fromayan and Andrew Marshall, the backup center, practiced at right tackle Wednesday.
