Georgia Tech defensive tackle Patrick Gamble is back with the second team following nose tackle Shawn Green’s return on Monday from an unspecified injury. Gamble has trained at both the nose tackle and defensive tackle spots and could play a crucial role if he can be productive enough to enable coaches to rotate him with Green and defensive tackle Adam Gotsis. Defensive-line depth is a major concern for the team.
“I guess I’ll be looked at like a sixth man, I guess, in basketball terms,” said Gamble, who, at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, would be a formidable power forward.
As a freshman last season, Gamble played in eight games with six tackles. In the preseason, Gamble has caught the attention of defensive coordinator Ted Roof in the preseason. Defensive tackle Francis Kallon is also trying to play his way onto the field.
“Pat’s a much improved player,” Roof said. “Francis is improved, as well. They’re not where we need them to be, but they’re both improved and they’re both working hard.”
