Georgia Tech freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun was named ACC rookie of the year Wednesday, becoming the third Tech player in team history to earn the honor.

Balogun leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 14.8 points per game, which ranks 14th in the ACC, first among conference freshmen and eighth nationally among freshmen. She also ranks 10th in the blocked shots per game with 1.2.

Previous winners at Tech were Niesha Butler in 1999 and Francesca Pan in 2017.

Balogun also was named to the ACC’s all-freshman team Tuesday, along with teammate Elizabeth Dixon.

Tech is seeded ninth in the ACC tournament and will play No. 8-seed North Carolina at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greensboro, N.C.
