Georgia Tech assistant basketball coach Josh Postorino will not be brought back for the 2014-15 season. Both Postorino and coach Brian Gregory described it as an amicable parting.
“He’s pursuing other opportunities, some other coaching opportunities,” Gregory said Thursday. “He has my support in his next step. For me, that’s about it. I appreciate all the work that he did and he’ll be missed.”
Postorino was brought on Gregory soon after his hire in March 2011. Among other things, he had had experience recruiting in metro Atlanta and Georgia after having coached two seasons at Clemson, 2008-09 and 2009-10. They reached the decision at a meeting to review the season.
“I think that change is something good for both of us,” Postorino said. “That’s really what it comes down to.”
It’s the first change that Gregory has made on his coaching staff. Senior associate athletic director Ryan Bamford said that a replacement hire is not imminent, but “I would say in the next couple of weeks, we’ll get something solidified.”
The two have known each other for more than 10 years after they met at a recruiting seminar that Gregory led and Postorino attended.
