Six-foot guard from St. Petersburg, Fla. Toi Smith received an offer from Georgia Tech for 2018, according to Tampa Thunder coach Rob Walker’s Twitter page.
Walker wrote in a post on Sept. 28 that Smith, a junior for the Thunder, a youth basketball program in Tampa, and Lakewood High School, received her Tech offer just after receiving an offer from Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla.
According to Lakewood’s girl’s basketball team’s Twitter page, Smith was selected to a school All-Star Game. Smith begins her junior season with the Lakewood Spartans on Nov. 15 against Gibbs High School.
In her sophomore season, the Tampa Bay times wrote named Smith one of Tampa's young players to watch, writing that Smith started the 2015-2016 season as the Spartan's top scorer and defender after senior teammate Siyana Allen injured her knee in the Spartans season opener.
The Tampa Bay Times interviewed Lakewood coach Necole Tunsil on Smith.
“Toi is more of a mid-range shooter who has a bigger body and can post inside,” Tunsil said to the Times. “She has the ability to guard anybody.”
