The Sun Belt won’t add a 12th member, at least not yet. As such, it may not be able to host a championship game in football.

“While we may explore adding a 12th all-sports member join the Sun Belt Conference, at this time we are moving the conference forward with our membership as is,” commissioner Karl Benson said in a statement released on the conference’s website. “Come July 1 the membership will be stable for the first time in over two years with no incoming or departing members. The makeup of that 11 all-sports conference will give us more than just stability - it will give us strength and opportunity.”

There were reports that the conference was considering adding Massachusetts, which would spread its football footprint from Idaho to New Mexico to Georgia to The Bay State.

In other news from the meetings, the basketball tournament will continue to include the top-eight finishers and regular-season scheduling will remain a Thursday-Saturday format.
