A trip to the Allstate Sugar Bowl has triggered some hefty bonuses for UGA coach Kirby Smart and his assistant coaches.
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Smart is set to receive a $175,000 bonus and his 10 assistant coaches are in line for up to $681,000 total for reaching the New Year’s Six non-playoff game.
Assistant coaches get a bonus of 20 percent of their base salary, according to the Georgia Athletic Association’s performance-based bonus structure. According to the report, that’s worth $78,000 for coordinators Jim Chaney and Mel Tucker and $75K for offensive line coach Sam Pittman and quarterbacks coach James Coley.
