Single-digit jerseys claimed by Harrell, Durham

Sept 9, 2014

The news you’ve all been waiting for – linebacker Anthony Harrell has won the right to wear jersey No. 2 and cornerback Step Durham will take the field in No. 8.

Coach Paul Johnson granted both players the coveted single-digit numbers after Saturday’s game. Harrell, at least, was seen in his new jersey number at Monday’s practice. Harrell had been wearing No. 51 while Durham had No. 29. They were among dozens of players to request them.

No. 8, last worn by cornerback Louis Young, was set to go to former signee Myles Autry, but Autry was released from his letter of intent after his brother Anthony was dismissed from the team in July. Durham will share it with kicker Andrew Chau. No. 2 was available after quarterback Vad Lee transferred.

A-back Austin McClellan, previously No. 41, took Durham’s No. 29.
