This is a different time, and Roy Williams demonstrated it again Thursday after his North Carolina team beat Miami in an ACC quarterfinal. In one answer at his news conference, Williams broke down the democratization of news and information, profanely criticized President Trump and, naturally, used the word “dickens” all in one response.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is to thank. Williams was asked for his response to Boeheim's harsh criticism of the ACCfor having its tournament in Greensboro, N.C., saying that the league's signature event needs to be in large cities such as New York, Washington and Atlanta.

Williams first said that he thought that the league should move the event around, but also should not forget its roots. He then was asked if he thought there was an advantage in media coverage or recruiting to have the tournament in a major city.

“It used to be much more so than I think it is now,” he said. “Now everybody has got social media, and we don’t need the New York Times to find out what in the dickens is going on in the country. You know, our president tweets out more (B.S.) than anybody I’ve ever seen. We’ve got all kinds of social media. In the old days, there’s no question (New York) was the media capital of the world, but I’m not sure that it is now because the media capital of the world is sitting right there, right there, right there (pointing at various media members).”

Should the Tar Heels win the national championship and visit the White House as per tradition, the comments might make for an interesting conversation between President Trump and Williams.

North Carolina advanced to play Duke at 7 p.m. Friday at the Barclays Center.
